1. Types of Tourist Visas

Nepal offers different types of tourist visas based on the duration of stay:

  • 15-Day Visa: USD 30
  • 30-Day Visa: USD 50
  • 90-Day Visa: USD 125

These visas can be extended if you wish to stay longer.

2. How to Obtain a Visa

  • On Arrival at the Airport:
    • Where: You can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) or at certain border crossings.
    • Process: Fill out the arrival card and visa application form at the immigration counter. Pay the visa fee at the designated bank counter and then present the receipt and completed form to the immigration officer.
  • Online (Pre-Arrival):
    • Apply online via the Department of Immigration website (https://nepaliport.immigration.gov.np/) before arriving. You’ll receive a confirmation slip that you must present at the immigration counter.
  • From Nepalese Embassies/Consulates Abroad:
    • You can apply at any Nepalese embassy or consulate in your home country before traveling to Nepal.

3. Required Documents

  • Valid Passport: Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
  • Passport-Sized Photos: Usually one or two recent passport-sized photos.
  • Visa Fee: Payable in cash (USD or other major currencies) upon arrival or at the embassy/consulate.

4. Visa Extensions

  • You can extend your visa at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
  • The extension fee is USD 3 per day. For multiple entries, an additional USD 25 is charged.

5. Important Points to Note

  • Free Visa for SAARC Countries: Citizens of SAARC countries (except Afghanistan) are eligible for a free 30-day visa once per year.
  • Indian Citizens: Indian nationals do not need a visa to enter Nepal.
  • Visa Validity: Tourist visas allow multiple entries and are valid for travel throughout Nepal.

6. Overstay Fines

If you overstay your visa, you’ll be charged USD 5 per day plus a late fee of USD 3 per day, so it’s essential to keep track of your visa expiration date.

7. Transit Visa

A transit visa is available for travelers with a stopover in Nepal, costing USD 5 for a 24-hour stay.
